The situation in Gaza seems to be deteriorating rapidly. Reports suggest that Israel is contemplating plans to displace residents from the area, pending approval from the United States.

A United Nations report highlights that Israel's actions in the West Bank have resulted in the most significant and prolonged refugee crisis in the area since 1967, when Israel first gained control of the land.
The report reveals that over 33,000 Palestinians were displaced during a military operation termed "Operation Iron Wall." This situation could potentially be classified as a serious crime against humanity, as it involves forcibly removing people from their homes, akin to ethnic cleansing.
This operation, launched in January 2025 in the northern part of the West Bank, was purportedly aimed at combating terrorism. In reality, the Israeli military demolished numerous homes using airstrikes, bulldozers, and demolitions, while also cutting off water and electricity supplies and blocking aid from reaching the main refugee camps Jenin, Nur Shams, and Tulkarm.
By October 2025, more than half of the buildings in Jenin were destroyed or damaged, nearly half in Nur Shams, and a third in Tulkarm. These camps have existed since 1948 for Palestinian refugees and are currently managed by the UN.
During the operation, at least 102 Palestinians were killed, including 21 children. A pregnant woman was shot along with her baby, and a young girl was shot while dining with her family. Israel claimed all these individuals were terrorists, but their own investigation stated the pregnant woman was shot because she appeared suspicious.
Some residents reported that Israeli officials advised them they could not stay in the camps and should move to Jordan. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the military to remain in the camps indefinitely and prevent people from returning. A UN official,
Volker Türk, expressed concerns that this suggests Israel aims to displace Palestinians to expand settlements, which violates international law. He urged Israel to end the occupation that has lasted almost 59 years and adhere to International Court of Justice rulings declaring Israel's presence in the area illegal.
Israeli courts usually side with the military regarding demolitions and rarely aid people defending their homes. The UN has called on Israel to cease illegal property destruction and allow people to return safely and with dignity.
This operation stands apart from other issues, such as attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians, which have escalated since October 7, 2023.
Many countries, including the UK and European nations, have pressured Israel to halt settlement expansion as they worry it complicates establishing a Palestinian state. UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband indicated that the UK might change its policy, possibly halting trade or visas for companies building settlements.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar warned that Israel would respond if the UK takes such actions.
